“Betsy’s lyrics provided incredible inspiration for me musically. Given that we share a mentor in the late jazz legend Les Harris Sr., we we’re both excited to create music we feel Les would be proud of. We tried to push the harmonic envelope while staying true to the traditional forms of jazz.” - Chris Plante

‘JAZZ #7’

“Jazz #7 ‘ is a new jazz album from Betsy Woodman and Chris Plante, in the tradition of the Great American Songbook.  This new album, #7 in their playbook, explores a contemporary take on jazz form.  Songs like “Black Crow” and the “Loneliness Game” come from a pivotal time in Betsy’s life shortly after she lost her husband, Jonathan, in 2019 after almost 6 decades of marriage.  In contrast, “Valentine Petals” explores a youthful and light love story.  In  “Mississippi River,” discover voodoo women, Mark Twain and Louis Armstrong along the famed river route and enjoy the New Orleans street beat. “Autumn Colors” opens “Season’s of our Love,” a poignant love story with a quiet winter sound.  “I need your love” plays to a blues beat.  “To the New Year with Love,” rings in the New Year with, “May love be the wind as we sail through the night.” And “Time to Create and Time to Move on,” explores a way out of great sadness. In this album, we acknowledge our human heartbreak and celebrate the positive, moving to the rhythm and beat of music that brings us to our dancing feet.

With contributions from the finest players in the Boston, featuring performances by Grammy nominated saxophonist Mark Earley to established drummer Phil McGowen to up-and-comer bassist Josh Schulz and many more.
