I began to explore my passion for song writing in 2005 when my first grand daughter was born and I began to write lyrics for kid’s songs. It was a pleasure I couldn’t stop, but I couldn’t do the music. The lyrics grew until I had over 70 possible songs. I was extremely fortunate to work with Les Harris, Sr., for four years on music theory in an attempt to be able to write the music myself to mesh with my lyrics.
Then, Les put me together with Chris Plante, one of Les’s long-time professional students, and I began to study piano with Chris. Soon, we were on to develop my lyrics into songs with Chris, arranging and writing the music and doing the production in his studio. We discovered that we worked well as a team, both of us growing and developing as we went along.
ALS struck my beloved husband in 2017 and he died in March 2019. Before the first year of my widowhood was over, Covid shut us all down. Now I was writing songs to help me cope and to heal. Lyrics that were raw but filled with hope. Chris stuck with me. Here we are now with six albums on line and a seventh on the way and we’re we’ve also begun to try our hand at sea shanties. Two of our songs were selected by NBC Sports for the Tokyo Olympics which were curtailed by Covid.
Chris has recently placed us onto TikTok for the opportunity to give tips about how we write our songs. The response has been heartening. We now have over 8600 followers and everyone is important! We learn and are inspired by their comments. And I’ve taken on the persona of “Grandma Producer.” I hope you’ll tune in, enjoy and become a follower.
Thanks! Betsy Woodman & Chris Plante
